Guildford Model Yacht Club celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2002. We are affiliated to the Model Yachting Association, the UK Division Member of the Radio Sailing Division of the INTERNATIONAL SAILING FEDERATION (ISAF).

Abbey Meads Lake

We sail at a superb water at Abbey Meads Lake, Chertsey which is an ideal venue for radio sailing. The lake is easy to find, being on the east side of the A320 Staines/Chertsey road opposite the Thorpe Park entrance. From whichever direction you approach, follow the signs to Thorpe Park. At that entrance take the southern exit towards Chertsey. The lake entrance is about 1000 metres on the left, after the lay-by where there is a turning off and a pair of metal gates. When the Club is sailing at the lake, you will also see a sign 'RADIO YACHTING' just before this entrance. If the gates are locked, please sound your horn and a club member will hopefully come and open up, or if they just closed, but not locked, please close them behind you! Access on foot can be gained to the north of these gates if absolutely necessary.

<Heading 3>

We are a keen club of enthusiastic members and cater as much for the newcomer as for the more experienced sailor. Club racing is organised on a regular basis for the Marblehead class. There is a 'club boat’ that can be borrowed and there are currently secondhand boats for sale. Please check the list on this website.Members do have boats in other classes (that are welcome at all our Club events) and these are used by members outside Club activities in Open, District, National and International events held elsewhere. One metres are also sailed on some days midweek in fine weather and also at some club events such as the summer evenings, the Christmas event etc. Please contact Simon Jeffs on 01276 858 481 or Gordon Edmondson on 01483 772 457 for details of the mid-week events. We are lucky to have members who design simple boats and mould hulls, keels, rudders and fittings etc. New carbon boats, to competitive designs, can be put together remarkably economically, if there is no suitable secondhand boat available.
